How Healthy is Your Team?

How Healthy is Your Team?

I’ve been listening to the awesome Sickboy Podcast (shameless plug – my friend Brian Stever is one of the hosts) and this week’s episode was all about men’s mental health. We spend far little time addressing men’s mental health issues and that got me thinking – we also spend far too little time checking the health of our teams. So this newsletter is advice on health checking your team, and identifying mistakes you are making.

This week, before you read on, may I please ask you a favour. I’d love to reach more people with what I wrote and speak about. So this is an appeal from me to you, to please share my newsletter and website with any networks you see fit – friends, colleagues, Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter… anywhere and everywhere basically. The more people I can reach, the more I can help people get teamwork right. Thank You!

VIDEO: Project Aristotle

Google have a lot of money. I am pleased they have spent some of it exploring the question, ‘how do you build the perfect team’? Hopefully, the answer will prevent sickness in your team in the first place. They invited New York Times journalist (and author of one of my favourite books, The Power of Habit) to come and see what they were doing and what they had learned. Here’s a two and a half minute video where he explains their findings. Really simple, really effective and great food for thought about how you can improve your team’s health.

ARTICLE: How to Work with Someone who Isn’t a Team Player

Unhealthy teams contain people who aren’t team players. But often there’s nothing we can do about that and we just have to get on with working with them. After all ‘this isn’t show friends, it’s show business’. Here’s an article in the Harvard Business Review about how to work with someone who isn’t a team player.
